Coaches & Contacts for 2019

Chris Taylor - Premier 1's
Chris is a highly decorated individual with a wealth of hockey experience and knowledge. Chris has been associated with VP coming up to 40 years in roles varying from a player, parent and coach. Chris has coached junior teams at VP for ten years, from Minkey through to J9/10’s before making the transition to coaching seniors as Assistant Coach to our MTL Men’s Team.

Fortunately for VP, Chris agreed to take on the Head Coach role of our MTL Women’s Team from 2016, making the 2018 season his third consecutive season leading the club from the front. Last year Chris coached the women to the Grand Final where they were unlucky to go down in a hard fought battle against WASPS. This achievement was a great effort from all involved and the clubs best result for the Women since entering the Premier 1 competition. No doubt Chris will be hoping to take the women one better this year and adding some silverware to the cabinetry.

Chris has not only had success as a coach, but had a highly successful playing career. He represented VP at the highest level for many years and was an integral part of the inaugural men’s premiership winning team in 1996.

Chris played representative hockey for WA from an early age - playing U14s, U15s, U17s, four years in U21s and two years with WA at Senior level. His playing achievements don’t stop there - not only did Chris represent WA for all those years he did so with impact and influence. He was rewarded for his strong performances, earning himself a Junior World Cup berth, two years in the AIS program and being a member of the 1988 Seoul Olympic Squad.

Marc Pike - Premier 2's

Victoria Park Xavier Hockey Club are delighted to welcome Marc Pike to the club.

Marc will be assistant to VPXHC 1’s Head Coach Chris Taylor as well as driving the progress and development of the 2’s cohort in what promises to be an extremely exciting year for the club.

Marc came to Perth from the UK in 2011 after completing his Masters in Sports Psychology. He played and coached in Perth for 2 years before moving east to support and develop state and nationally identified athletes in his full time role with Hockey Queensland as regional coaching director. In this time he achieved National success with the Queensland Country women (Silver 2016, Gold 2017) and U18 Indoor (Silver 2015, 2017 & 2018).

Marc ‘returned home’ to Perth in 2018 and coached the Westside Wolves Premier Women to a Minor Premiership and was also part of the State Premiership winning side with Old Aquinians / Reds Hockey Club as a player. In the summer he guided the U18 WA Women’s Indoor side to silver working with current VPX players Lisa Gleave, Kayla O’Sullivan and Amberley Abbott.

‘It is a privilege to be part of a great club and work with an experienced and knowledgeable off-field team in Chris (Taylor) and Peter (Frusher). The women’s squads struggled with injuries in 2018 but with a lot of players returning and lots of young promising players improving, it is an exciting time. The first week of training has been good, you can see the players are motivated and hungry for success and I aim to support this’

Jason Gabriel -  Premier Alliance (3’s)
Paula Dick - Provisional 2 (4’s)
Rebecca Kantor  - Metros (Saturday Grass)
Shirley Tonkin and Lorraine Browning - Midweek Masters

**Due to the limited number of teams able to be nominated, new and returning players should contact the above mentioned people and let their intentions to play be know. Better yet, register to play on line and do onto the VPXHC database to stay up to date with the latest training schedules and news.
