Home grown Australian Players

Our first home grown Australian player is Dean Evans. Dean's father Michael (Mick) Evans was a member of the first Vic Park Mens team in 1962 and was a Committee Member for a number of years. Dean started his hockey with the Club as an Under 8 and played all his junior and senior hockey with the Club. Dean was selected to play for Australia in 1985 playing 80 internationals until his retirement in 1992. Dean was selected in two Olympic Games however due to injury he was unable to play in the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

Our second home grown Australian player was Georgia Wilson. Georgia commenced her hockey at VPXHC in U11's progressing through the Club's junior rank into seniors before being selected for Australia. Georgia was selected in 2017 and played internationally for the Hockeyroos until 2023. Georgia played 60 internationals for the Hockeyroos. Georgia is also a Charlesworth Medal winner (2014) for the Fairest and Best player in the Premier 1 Women's competition and a four-time winner of the Rachelle Hawkes Youth Player of the Year Award (2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017).

Karri Somerville is our third home grown Australian player and was selected in 2020 and continues to play for the Hockeyroos. Karri commenced her hockey for VPXHC in Juniors before progressing to the Club's senior ranks.

Our fourth home grown Australian player is James Collins. James started his hockey in Minkey graduating through Juniors and into the Club's senior ranks. James was selected in 2022 and continues to play in the Australian Kookaburras team. James is also a winner of the Olympians Medal for the Fairest and Best Mens Premier 1 player (2021).
